A Little Insight

As a teenager in modern society, I believe I speak on behalf of all teens when I say that we are confronted with our fair share of troubles. I’d go further and say that some of the struggles we face today weren’t even a concern with our respective previous generations. Now, as a teen that goes to church, I find such adversities even more tempestuous. The pressure to conform to a society where corruption is dominant is at an all time high, broadcasting itself throughout various platforms. And although not all youth classify themselves as “impressionable,” many still fall prey to the temptations at hand.

A continuous internal battle that I claim to endure stems from my preoccupation with the mistakes I’ve made. Being the person I am, if there is something I know I did wrong, I try to seek forgiveness and obtain mercy with the hope of God’s grace, because that is all I can do. However, it wasn’t always so. Prior to this way of thinking, I would let the magnitude of my error consume my mind and it grew to severely degrade my mental health. Through seeking God and reading the Bible I came across a scripture that says “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4). This comforted me greatly because it shows how the individuals mentioned in the Bible were real people too, with real temptations, real desires, real ambitions and even real and terrible errors, much like us today.

With their grit and passion for God in combination with the acceptance of His divine will, we obtain hope that we too can get through life’s struggles. Despite all of this, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to trust God completely. The adversities we face on a daily basis may not all be avoidable, but if you trust His will for your life and act in obedience to His Word, he has proven to deliver. Act in genuine love and display honest gratitude for where you are, and you will attract so much more.
